Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday, Some weekends may be required.

Position Summary

As a Family Service & Guidance Center Doctoral Level Student, you will work in a stimulating and collaborative environment where you will gain exposure to diverse clients and perspectives.  You will be introduced to our mission and what drives our employees each day.  Students are encouraged to network with other employees and build relationships across disciplines as well as with other students.


As a Doctoral Level Student, you may have the opportunity to work in the following areas:

  • Observe and job shadow staff.
  • Job shadowing may focus on outpatient therapy services, attendant care services, psychosocial group services, case management services, wraparound services, parent support services and/or crisis resolution program services.
  • Plan curriculum and/or help administer curriculum and interventions.
  • Co-facilitate group therapy and/or parent education classes.
  • Provide co-therapy with identified master's level clinician.
  • If licensed at a master's level, students will be required to have a caseload of clients.
  • Attend various trainings during the placement period, on various clinical topics.
  • Research and present on a topic selected by the Training Coordinator and Student. Student will present to a specific internal audience, coordinated through Family Service & Guidance Center's Training Coordinator.
  • Present and/or lead clinical trainings during placement period.



  • Current enrollment and in good standing in an accredited doctoral degree program majoring in social work or psychology.
  • Must successfully pass the KBI, DCF Central Registry, and all other background investigations.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, a good driving record, current auto insurance and reliable transportation. 


  • Passion and desire to work with children and families.
  • 0-6 months experience working with children.


Risk of exposure to aggressive and/or acting out (verbal and physical) children and youth, and exposure to low socioeconomic homes and neighborhoods.
