Department: Community Based Services (CBS)  Job Status: Part-time 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt  Reports to: Happy Bear Coordinator    

Positions Supervised:  None  Amount of Travel Required:  100%; Shawnee County and surrounding counties. 

Work Schedule:  Tuesday/Wednesday and as needed.

Varied hours between 8am to 2:30pm: must be able and willing to adjust work schedules based on performances.

Position Summary

Happy Bear providers must be at least 21 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Reliable transportation is essential to complete job duties. Happy Bear Providers must have sufficient ambulatory capabilities to work with children/youth in community-based settings, primarily schools.  This position requires the physical ability to be in the Happy Bear costume, give and receive hugs from children or high fives if they prefer. Happy Bear Providers must be able and willing to adjust work schedules to meet the Happy Bear Program schedule.  The program typically runs two days per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

  • Collaborate with Happy Bear Coordinator in regards to the Happy Bear Program schedule and performances.
  • Be aware of ethical behavior expectations and act accordingly.
  • Respect and demonstrate the ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Act as an ambassador of Family Service and Guidance Center in community settings.
  • Support and actively promote the vision and mission of Family Service and Guidance Center.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Happy Bear providers must successfully pass the KBI, SRS Central Registry and all other background investigations.  
  • Valid driver's license, current auto insurance, a good driving record and a reliable vehicle are required.
  • Must be able and willing to adjust work schedules based on performances.
  • Must collaborate with Happy Bear Coordinator to deliver optimal services to the community.

Experience:

  • Experience working with children and families preferred.

Primarily community-based working environment, i.e., schools and community. Happy Bear provider requires flexibility in scheduling; risk of exposure to aggressive and/or acting out children and youth.
